AI Tech Pack Trim and Hardware Details: Zippers, Buttons, and Closures

How AI tech packs specify trim and hardware — zippers, buttons, snaps, grommets, drawcords, and every closure component with material and finish details.

Why trim and hardware specs matter

Trim and hardware are the functional and decorative components that elevate a garment from fabric to finished product. Wrong hardware — the wrong zipper weight, incorrect button size, mismatched snap finish — undermines the entire design. An AI tech pack with comprehensive trim specifications prevents these issues.

Skema3D's AI tech pack identifies and specifies every trim and hardware component based on your garment description. The AI knows which components are standard for each garment type and generates appropriate specifications.

Zipper specifications

Zippers are the most common garment hardware and require detailed specifications.

Button and snap specifications

Buttons and snaps need clear specifications to avoid quality issues.

  • Buttons: material (polyester resin, metal, horn, corozo), size (diameter in mm or ligne), holes (2-hole, 4-hole, shank), color/finish, logo deboss if applicable
  • Snaps: type (ring, prong, cap), size (12mm, 15mm, 17mm), material (brass, stainless), finish (matte, polished, painted), attachment method (rivet, sew-on)
  • Hooks and eyes: size, material, finish — for waistbands and closures
  • Grommets/eyelets: size (inner diameter), material, finish — for drawcord holes and decorative details

Drawcords and elastic

Drawcord specifications include: material (flat woven, round braided, waxed cotton, rope), width or diameter, length, tip finish (metal aglet, sealed, knotted), and color. Elastic specifications include: type (woven, braided, knit), width, stretch percentage, and recovery.

These details are often overlooked in manual tech packs but are automatically included in AI tech packs from Skema3D when the garment construction requires them.

Hardware finish consistency

All hardware on a garment should share a consistent finish unless you intentionally design a mixed-metal look. When you specify 'matte black hardware' in your Skema3D prompt, the AI tech pack applies that finish across all hardware items — zipper slider, snap caps, grommets, and any other metal components.
